Sabadell breathes culture. Many cultural activities take place every week: concerts, conferences, theatre and dancing shows, cinema and displays. This city has associations of all kinds and a huge wealth of cultural entities and facilities that constitute the popular and traditional cultural activity of this metropolis.
Sabadell is a benchmark for music. Some of its most remarkable organisms are Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, a recognized symphonic orchestra in the Spanish context, and Associació d’Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell, who exports its operatic productions all around Catalonia. The city has an important range of theatres and auditoriums such as La Faràndula, with capacity for up to 1,000 people, the historic Teatre Principal, La Sala —a place dedicated to the production and exhibit of family and children shows— and the auditorium of the modernist building Espai Cultura Fundació 1859. There is also another building called L’Estruch, an arts centre which hosts productions and staging from professional and amateur theatre companies of Sabadell and other cities. Moreover, L’Estruch has La Vela, a circular circus tent that turns the whole facility into a country project.
In the middle of Parc Catalunya, a large urban park where lots of activities are carried out, you can find the Astronomical Observatory of Sabadell. This city also has an interesting patrimony of art and history museums, such as Institut Català de Paleantologia Miquel Crusafont Paleontològic and Aeronautical Museum of Catalonia located in Sabadell’s airport area. And we cannot forget about Torre de l’Aigua, a modernist construction that has become a landmark of Sabadell’s skyline.
In Sabadell we also have a splendid variety of popular festivities and traditions. Among them, the most relevant ones are La Salut on Monday after the second Sunday of May and Festa Major on the first weekend of September.
